The AP reports that Mariano Rivera successfully logged his first simulated game, throwing 18 pitches against Yankees minor leaguers. All was well. The firsts continue.

For the first time since his surgery, Mariano Rivera has pitched to hitters. The Yankees closer threw batting practice today, according to The Star-Ledger's Andy McCullough. Following the session, Rivera said that "it felt really good."

Mariano Rivera told Buster Olney of ESPN that there was "a good chance" he would have retired if he had been able to come back and pitch in last year's playoffs.

Jack Curry reports that Mariano Rivera has decided whether or not 2013 will be his final season and he will announce his plans prior to the start of the 2013 season.

The Jewish Daily Forward reports that Mariano Rivera has been named Man of the Year by the New York Board of Rabbis.

Rivera, who was selected because of his charitable work, will be provided with a guided tour of Israel.
