Mariano finished 9th in AL MVP voting, behind Vladimir Guerrero, Gary Sheffield, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Miguel Tejada, Johan Santana, Ichiro Suzuki and Michael Young.

He had 2 5th place votes, 3 6th place votes, 3 7th place votes, 3 8th place votes, 4 9th place votes and 5 10th place votes, for a grand total of 59 points.

He finished ahead of Ivan Rodriguez, Joe Nathan, Derek Jeter, Mark Kotsay, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon, Paul Konerko, Hank Blalock, Melvin Mora, Mark Teixeira, Torii Hunter, Victor Martinez, Erubiel Durazo, Francisco Cordero, Lew Ford, Carlos Guillen, Hideki Matsui, Chone Figgins, Eric Chavez and Jason Varitek.

Mariano finished third in the AL Cy Young voting, behind Johan Santana and Curt Schilling.

Santana received all 28 first place votes, Schilling received 27 second place votes and 1 third place vote and Mariano had 1 second place vote and 24 third place votes.

Pedro Martinez, Joe Nathan and Francisco Rodriguez each received 1 third place vote.

1. Mo was named Relief Pitcher of the Year
by The Sporting News (TSN).

2. Vote for Mo for Closer of the Year on MLB.com. They are currently taking vote for their This Year In Baseball (TYIB) year end awards.
