Posted by: Patrick reports that Major League Baseball is altering the way they present their yearly Major League Baseball Delivery Man Award (given annual to the best relief pitcher in all of baseball, since 2005), creating an award for both the American and National leagues.

More importantly, the American League award will now be called the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award. Meanwhile, the National League edition will be named in honor of Trevor Hoffman.

It was year 10 of Mariano Rivera's career. Coming into that season, he was less than half way to his career saves mark of 652. He had pitched in 512 games with a 2.49 ERA, collecting 283 saves. In the 20 seasons that this site was online - the remainder of his career - he pitched in 603 games with a 1.92 ERA and 369 saves.
