Mariano Rivera simply does not have command of his pitches yet this season. Hopefully this is from not getting regular work and he will become sharper very soon.
On Friday night in Beantown he entered the game with the Yankees leading 6-3 and runners on 1st and 3rd with only one out. He had Jason Varitek 1-2 but could not finish him off and he singled to right to make it 6-4. Coco Crisp followed with a triple down the first base line to tie the score and hence blow the save. The Yankees brought the infield in and Alex Cora blooped a single over short to put the Bosox ahead at 7-6. Cora was caught stealing for the second out and Julio Lugo struck out swinging to end the inning.
The Yankees got Abreu on and A-Rod up but he couldn't deliver and the Bombers lost a heartbreaker 7-6.
Rivera is now 1-2 on the season with 2 blown saves in as many opportunities. His season ERA now stands at 8.44.
