06/11: New Rochelle City Manager Recommends Property Sold to Mariano Rivera for Church and Community Center

Posted by: Patrick
Back in April, it was reported by Talk of the Sound that Mariano Rivera was looking to buy a distressed piece of property in New Rochelle for $1, in order to build a church and community center to improve the community.

Andrew Klappholz of Lohud.com has an update on the story. New Rochelle city manager Charles Strome III has recommended that the property be sold to Rivera and his congregation, one of two parties who have expressed interest.

Storme indicated that the decision was based heavily on the fact that the Rivera-backed organization had the money to make the improvements now, where the other bidder, Bezer Holiness Church, would need to raise funds over an extended period of time.
