11/23: City Council to Vote on Changing River Avenue to Rivera Avenue Next Month

Posted by: Patrick
River Avenue is a street near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Fans have been leading an effort to get the city to add an A to the street name, making it Rivera Avenue, in honor of Mariano Rivera.

With six people vowing for a City Council speaker spot, all six candidates said that streets should only be renamed for people who are deceased. One candidate said that an exception should be made for Rivera, however. Queens Councilman Mark Weprin answered "yes - except for Mariano Rivera."

The City Council will vote on the issue next month.

Thank you to nycjobs for the tip.
