12/11: City Council Votes to Rename One Block of River Ave. for Mariano Rivera

Posted by: Patrick
Fan-led efforts to rename River Ave., a street outside Yankee Stadium, to Rivera Ave., in honor of Mariano Rivera, led to a City Council vote on Tuesday, considering the measure. According to the Post, the vote was 47-0 in favor with 2 abstentions.

As such, the one block stretch of the road near Yankee Stadium will officially be renamed to Rivera Ave.

"It's an honor to have a street named after me," Rivera told the Post. "I have a lot of great memories driving down that street. My family and I are extremely grateful for this."
