03/06: Mariano and Clara Rivera Open Newly Renovated Church in New Rochelle

Posted by: Patrick
It was back in April of 2011 that we learned Mariano Rivera had offered to buy a distressed piece of property in New Rochelle, NY, for $1. It was an old, crumbling church and Rivera had plans to renovate it and rebuild the church, adding a community center.

A couple of months later, the City Manager recommended that the city complete the sale. The city council voted in favor by a 5 to 2 margin.

Progress has quietly been made and, on Thursday, Mariano and Clara Rivera opened the renovated church, now named Refugio de Esperanza, with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Thank you for to nycjobs for the tip.
