04/04: MarianoRivera.com Celebrates 10 Years Online!

Posted by: Patrick
It was 10 years ago today that I launched MarianoRivera.com.

It is amazing to consider the passage of time. In 2004, the Yankees began their season in Tokyo, playing two games at the end of March against the (then) Devil Rays. Rivera pitched in the second game, but didn't collect a save as the Yankees won by 11 runs. Before the Yankees would continue that series on April 6, we launched on April 4.

It was year 10 of Mariano Rivera's career. Coming into that season, he was less than half way to his career saves mark of 652. He had pitched in 512 games with a 2.49 ERA, collecting 283 saves. In the 20 seasons that this site was online - the remainder of his career - he pitched in 603 games with a 1.92 ERA and 369 saves.

When I launched this site, there were no fan sites for Mo, which was part of my motivation for creating one. I was born a Yankees fan, thanks to my Dad, and there aren't many figures who loom larger in my fandom of the team than Mariano Rivera. I wrote about this, at length, in my What Mariano Rivera Means to Me article, so I won't delve into it here.

It has been an interesting ride and it wouldn't have been the same without the people who contributed to and spread the word about this website.

Thank you to David Williams, who writes with me here and has contributed so many of the game recaps that we have published over the years. Your dedication, consistency and support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who has read, spread the word about and commented here. This includes many people, but a few names stand out: Moises Young Diaz, John Lewis-Moore, Sanghyun Choo, Franklin Gomez and Adrian Padill. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who has supported MarianoRivera.com. I appreciate you.

Sincerely,

Patrick O'Keefe
